Advanced Performance: The Improvised Superhero
8 weeks – Class starts Monday, April 11
Classes: Mondays at 7pm, April 11-May 30.
Shows: Mondays at 9:30pm, June 13-July 4
This eight-session advanced course will teach students the improvised longform The Movie, in which performers create a brand-new movie live onstage, simulating filmmaking techniques like edits and camera angles. Just as Marvel Studios has been blending superheroes with other genres, we will primarily examine and perform superhero films, but we will also study other genres – spy films, heists, war movies, etc. – to add to the mix.
The goal is to create a regularly running prime-time show at The Experiment that builds an audience, building on the success of the current Harry Potter: Improvised.
Students will learn how to aggressively play genre improv and will also acquire an entirely new set of improv skills and learn to build their character work.
Students will be expected to watch and discuss movies each week. Background knowledge of comic books is not necessary, but it will be helpful.
The class will be held for eight weeks at The Experiment Comedy Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (20 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11249; L train to Bedford Avenue, J/M/Z to Marcy Avenue). Graduation shows will be scheduled to coincide with the summer’s coming superhero films, also at The Experiment.
A note to students of other training centers:
Students can enroll if they have completed programs at other improv schools or have received approval from the teacher.
Write to email@example.com if you have questions about this.
Students missing more than two sessions will be removed from the class. There will be no exceptions.
Cancellation Policy: Students can cancel registration until seven days before the start of this course for a full refund, and three days with a half refund. After that, there is no refund.
